About the Ranch

At Tilly Hawk we breed a cross of Angus, Brahman and Hereford cattle we have found this breeding mix allows for easy birthing, heat tolerance, a good temperament and most importantly a quality beef rich in marbling. As with all we do LOVE is the key ingredient. By doing something we love it’s easy to carry that love through the whole process and it really does make all the difference. Our animals spend their lives on pasture, handled under low stress conditions, all natural grains are added into their diets for finishing to ensure rich marbling. We have chosen to forego the use growth hormones here at Tilly Hawk and all our meat is free of antibiotics.

Let me introduce our resident celebrities Frio, Norma Jean and Buck. The first little cutie is Frio she is a brand new arrival and ranch favorite. Born December 23rd 2022 she got the name “Frio” from a friend of ours as frio means cold and she was born on the coldest day of the year. She will be joining our ranks as a replacement heifer in the coming years and hopefully will be my nieces first show heifer for 4H.

The cute little button in the middle is Norma Jean she was a twin born October of 2021. I guess two was too many for her Mama so she came up to the barn so we could give her the love she needed. Anyone who has met her knows she is her own heifer and I believe that is why we love her so. She will join the herd as replacement heifer sure to give us years of beautiful babies.

Meet Buck more of a treat connoisseur than cow pony, he adds a touch of personality and his fair share of the good looks to the Ranch. He enjoys biting calves, eating and long rolls in the sand. Though most of our day to day work is done in the seat of a tractor, a John Deere Gator or walking in a pair of boots we couldn’t imagine our barn without him in it.

How about our motto Quality, Tradition, Stewardship? How do those things guide us here at Tilly Hawk? The quality is not just in the meat it’s in the process, the details. We take great pride in the quality of the work we do everyday, not just at the Ranch but in every aspect of our lives. The quality of life for our animals is top priority not only by how they are treated, but what they are fed and how they spend their lives. In turn the quality of our lives is enriched and we receive far more then we give. When we consider tradition well that comes from our roots from those generations before us, the people that taught and impacted us. It’s our way of honoring those influential people by taking the knowledge they imparted and mixing that with new knowledge and methods to really create a ranch management style that really holds true to us. A big part of that is stewardship and how we are working toward leaving things in better shape for future generations. We do this by growing in knowledge and implementing new strategies to enrich our soil, decrease reliance on herbicides and using no till practices whenever possible. We strive to limit waste through composting, use of our chickens to lessen food waste, recycling and repurposing all things of value instead of taking to the landfill. We will continue to improve these processes as we grow and strive to continually implement new strategies.
