Love for our cattle, love for the land and for each other.
Buddy and Jocelynn Lanier are regular people with a passion for farming, a dedication to quality and an appreciation for tradition. Together, they own and operate Tilly Hawk Ranch with more than 35 years of experience in the agriculture industry. While no two days on a cattle ranch look the same, there is a constant that drives them through their hard work and long days. That constant is love. Love for cattle, love for honoring their craft, love for their animals and love for each other.
“Being a cowboy is a way of life. It's the early morning sunrise with the fresh dew-covered fields. It's holding a new baby calf after a difficult calving experience. It's pushing on when all you want to do is throw in the towel.”
Buddy grew up on a farm and ranching has always been a part of his life. Starting early with his tough-as-nails and beloved grandma teaching him what it took to be called a cowboy. She instilled in him early in life that being a cowboy is a way of life. It's the early morning sunrise with the fresh dew-covered fields. It's holding a new baby calf after a difficult calving experience. It's pushing on when all you want to do is throw in the towel. For Buddy, this life is the only life.
Jocelynn has fallen just as deeply in love with this way of life. It happened gradually over time through countless hours working cattle, breathing fresh country air enhanced by the smell of cow manure and many turns on a tractor. Not having grown up on a farm, Jocelynn chose the farming and ranching life. Or did it choose her? With more than 10 years of experience in the financial services industry, she brings a unique and valuable perspective to the ranch.
While their paths here were different, they share a love for honoring their craft. For them it is important to raise beef in a way that blends old time traditions with new management strategies to enrich the soil, offer their cattle a comfortable healthy life and raise finished beef that they are proud to put on the plate. Through ever-present challenges of selling livestock, ranching and farming Buddy and Jocelynn continue to evolve and grow their business. The most recent journey is bringing together their desire for a high quality product, appreciation of tradition and practice of stewardship to make the farm to table beef experience accessible to the broad community.
Falling in love early in life has meant that as the business grew and as they individually grew, so did their love for each other. There is something special about getting to work alongside your best friend and life partner. For the last 15 years, they have worked together to grow hay and cattle. In 2015 Buddy and Jocelynn decided to devote more time to ranching by starting their own business, Lanier Farms LLC. And that is where it all truly began.
We hope you can taste the difference in our homegrown products.
